Abrahano slams Topacio’s innuendoes

“THEY insult the intelligence and capabilities of our policemen!”

This was the quick retort from Dagupan police chief Christopher Abrahano to the insinuations and innuendos of Amb ALC Holdings lawyer Ferdinand Topacio during the press conference.

“We are hurt and saddened by the insinuations, it is like an insult to our local police and investigators who have exerted their best effort to identify and arrest the suspect. Hindi basta- basta ang ginawang imbestigasyon para ma-solve agad ang kaso,” Abrahano said as he vowed to continue pursuing the case until the conviction of the arrested suspect is obtained.

During the press conference organized by Topacio, he said he was not convinced that the case is solved as claimed by the police in spite of the arrest to the suspect Rolando Lim Jr. and rejected the established motive being a mere neighborhood rift as inconclusive.

Abrahano, however, maintained that he is confident that they arrested the right suspect in Lim, a neighbor of Navarro in Barangay Pantal, and said the suspect acted alone prompted by a long standing personal conflict between Navarro and the Lim in the neighborhood.

Navarro reportedly regularly chides Lim for being a drug user and pusher in the neighborhood that always irked Lim.

Abrahano told The PUNCH that one of the witnesses said minutes before the shooting, Navarro had made a sarcastic loud remark about drug use in front of Lim’s house.

“We are confident that the arrested suspect is the real suspect based on the evidence gathered and the sworn statements of the three witnesses who pinpointed the suspect, and it was also in consultation with the victim (Navarro) himself”, said Abrahano.

“Although the suspect still denies the allegation as expected but the case or arrest is strongly supported by evidences and facts”, Abrahano said even as he welcomed the proposal to let NBI conduct its own investigation of Navarro’s case.

He pointed out that “the fact that the case was filed and there was inquest resolution from the fiscal should suggest that there is a probable cause, now it’s up to the court to appreciate the evidences presented”.

Abrahano further gave an assurance that the police will continue with their mandate in pursuing justice for the victim and ensuring his safety given the information of continuing death threats against him.

The DCPS has assigned two police officers as Navarro’s security team on the directive of Mayor Belen Fernandez amid reported claims of death threats being received by Navarro.  (Hilda Martin Austria)
