Urdaneta City honors honest trike driver
URDANETA CITY—Honesty pays.
This old adage became true to a tricycle driver who had no second thoughts about turning over an expensive laptop left by his passenger to the police station.
P/Superintendent Jeff Fanged, city police chief, said Mayor Amadeo “Bobom” Perez IV and the police decided to honor Ogie Jacob of Barangay Dilan-Paurido for his deed and make him a good example to his peers.
P/Supt. Fanged (right), police chief of Urdaneta City and Mayor “Bobom” Perez IV (beside Fanged) present a special award to Ogie Jacob for his honesty during the Monday flag raising ceremony.
Fanged said Jacob’s passenger Jezza Mazalayan, a bank employee from Cebu City, inadvertently left her HP laptop inside his tricycle driven after arriving at her destination at around 10:00 p.m. last August 4.
She hurried to the police station to report her loss but within minutes Jacob arrived at the station holding her laptop to report and turn it over to the station to be returned to the owner.
Mazalayan left the station feeling relieved and grateful for Jacob’s honesty and sense of responsibility.
Jacob, after returning his find, said in Pilipino -“It’s better to be honest because I know God will give more than that if you do good to others.”
Fanged said he was touched by Jacob’s honesty and deriving personal satisfaction from doing a good deed.
He hopes Jacob’s example would be emulated by his fellow tricycle drivers.
Meanwhile, netizens’ praises and admiration for Jacob filled the Facebook page of Urdaneta City Police Station. (Tita Roces)
