THE P75 MILLION LOAN OF CALASIAO. The town wants a whooping P75 million loan for a slaughterhouse, sports and commercial complex and streetlights, but no one is protesting. The proposed loan was approved by the Sangguniang Bayan. I wonder if some residents of Calasiao are happy about it. Are those projects worth borrowing for? Many barangays and schools are flooded every rainy season, why not get a loan instead for the elevation of the schools and barangay roads? Or fund a feasibility study to determine long-term solutions to the perennial flooding? (They could have started this a long time ago). SANDBAGGING IN BUGALLON. The recent sandbagging activity in Bugallon was yet a good initiative of an LGU to prevent flash floods. According to farmers in the area, the flash flood resulting in soil erosion has been a problem for them in the last five to six years, I wonder why the past government did not see the need to solve this. Anyway, the sandbags are temporary so I hope the riprapping will really push through this year because three farm villages and hundreds of lives are affected by the soil erosion – Johanne R. Macob

SAN ROQUE REREGULATING POND. It took three years for NIA to construct the first phase of the reregulating pond. I hope it won’t take them another three years more to be able to construct the second phase…ooops, budget for the phase 2 has not been allocated yet. So I should say I hope it wont take three more years for the national government to prioritize the project. Besides, if my memory serves me right, the supposed program for the completion of the flood mitigating cum-irrigation-cum power source has been included in the NEDA projects. I bet we’ll never know what went wrong. Let us just altogether hope that the project that will irrigate at least 55,000 hectares, gets its needed attention anytime soon. This will regain for our province its stature as the top, not only third, rice producer in the country. –  Johanne R. Macob

DEPED DAGUPAN’S TECH PLAN. Kudos to DepEd Dagupan for coming up with a technology plan. It is humility to admit that teachers also need to educate themselves on the world wide web which is the new environment for this generation of students. I think this will be beneficial not only to the teachers and students but also to the community. For in the long run as stated by schools division superintendent Gloria Torres, students will be contributors of literature through blogs and arts with their paintings, cartoons etc. But first, the teachers must influence their students on the proper and responsible usage of the internet especially the social networking sites, as an avenue for sharing knowledge and good vibes instead or other than bullying or self-centered selfies. – Hilda M.
