KBP-Pangasinan to hold “Oplan Broadcastreeing”
DAGUPAN CITY—-The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP)-Pangasinan Chapter will conduct its annual tree planting activity dubbed “Oplan BroadcasTreeing” on August 30 at the Mayor’s Shed in Bonuan Tondaligan here.
KBP-Pangasinan Chapter President Jay Mendoza said the activity will start at 6 a.m.
“Aside from tree planting, a coastal clean-up drive will be held simultaneously with the activity,” he said.
This urban greening initiative of the KBP is in support to the National Greening Program (NGP), a massive forest rehabilitation program of the government under President Benigno S. Aquino III.
Aside from being a reforestation initiative, the NGP is also seen as a climate change mitigation strategy as it seeks to enhance the country’s forest stock to absorb carbon dioxide, which is largely blamed for global warming.
It is also designed to reduce poverty, providing alternative livelihood activities for marginalized upland and lowland households in line with seedling production and care and maintenance of newly-planted trees.
Now on its fourth year, the BroadcasTreeing activity was previously conducted in San Manuel town in 2011, San Fabian town in 2012, and along Pantal and Dawel River in Dagupan City last year.
Mendoza said that those who are interested to join can contact any KBP-member stations for details.
The activity is in partnership with the city government of Dagupan, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Department of Interior and Local Government. (PIA-1, Pangasinan/ April M. Montes)
