It’s more fun getting married in Hundred Islands
ALAMINOS CITY—A heart-pumping 456-meter long zipline ride beats a walk down the aisle after a wedding anytime.
This was the sentiment of the first couple that exchanged marriage vows at the breathtaking Governor’s Island view deck at the world-famous Hundred Islands National Park (HINP) who had no second thoughts about ziplining after sealing their union with a kiss last August 18.
Gerald Mentoya, 28, a seaman and his bride, Cherish May Sagun, a nurse based in London, both from this city, made historic for the famed tourist destination as the first couple to have their wedding rites by a zipline with an elevation of 46.72 meters from the waters at the Governor’s Island.
The bride wore a white wedding gown while the groom wore white polo shirt and pants. Mayor Arthur Celeste officiated the wedding ceremony and acted also as their principal sponsor together with his wife, Chloue.
After Gerald kissed his bride, they had themselves harnessed for their zipline ride while holding up a “ Just Married” sign. Their Ninang Chloue also rode the zipline after them.
Not to be outdone, Gerald’s 84-year old grandfather, Segundo, a retired school principal wowed the crowd when he, too, rode the zipline, Maridel Rabac, executive assistant on youth affairs at the Office of the Mayor, said.
The adventure wedding was attended by the couple’s parents and relatives and the proceedings were covered by a local television network.
After the wedding, the mayor wrote in his Facebook account, “thankful that the Hundred Islands National Park (HINP) is gaining and drawing attention from our local and foreign tourists.” He is optimistic that more significant events will be held in the islands.
He thanked Gerald Mentoya and Cherish May Sagun-Mentoya, for choosing the HINP as part of their journey in life. The couple’s wedding reception was also held at the Governor’s Island.
The zipline at the Governor’s Island will be inaugurated soon as the landscaping in the area is completed.
Earlier this year, a 180-meter long zipline at the Quezon Island also at the HINP, opened and is drawing more tourists and adventure seekers in the area. (Tita Roces)
