Clueless President?

RECENT developments in Malacañang Palace are becoming worrisome as the days go by.

The totally unexpected response of President Benigno Aquino III to the nagging question about “a clamor for him to run for another term” that would necessitate an amendment to the constitution,  has made many shudder at his seeming sly response.  From a resounding NO to amending term of tenure of the President until last month to a squeaky “PERHAPS” last week, was sickening, to say the least.

What is PNoy thinking? Or what have his sycophants made him believe about himself? From his off-the-cuff response, it has become evident that he has come to believe that his ‘Bosses’ are with him in fighting off the invasive claws of the Supreme Court. By invoking his displeasure over the seemingly unexpected independence of the High Court as sole motivation to consider an extension of his term, he appeared cocky and suddenly irreverent towards established norms of governance. PNoy is now one who takes to check-and balance in government as repulsive, and he now expects his ‘Bosses’ to say he is justified.

He either has had no clue whatsoever of what her mother President Cory’s legacy was all about or he has simply chosen to delude himself into believing that nothing else matters in this country but him.

If he does not wake up to reject his folly soon enough, he might just himself rebuked by his millions of ‘bosses’ as one too good to be true after all.  We know Pangasinan will.

Sacred or Screwed Constitution

WE ought to be reminded again.  We reclaimed democracy after the unlamented Marcos Dictatorship was toppled by People Power in February 1986. Why some jerks are pushing for the term extension of President Aquino that ends in June 2016 is a move to slide back to tyranny.

If it’s a joke, it isn’t funny.

The crazy idea stems from this suddenly perceived belief that the judiciary is more powerful than the executive.  This came about amid the noise created by the Supreme Court decision declaring P-Noy’s release of DAP (Disbursement Acceleration Program) funds unconstitutional. Worse, P-Noy filed a Motion for Reconsideration asking the High Court to reverse its decision.

Again, listen carefully, please, lest we stray once more from the true spirit of the Constitution under which our democracy is solidly anchored on:  the Legislature makes laws, the Judiciary interprets laws and the Executive implements laws.  Is that hard enough to understand?

It is, if people now in power want a Screwed Constitution in place of the Sacred Constitution.
