THE Dagupan City government is set to conduct a mass immunization drive against measles, rubella (German measles), and polio this September.

The program is part of the Department of Health’s Ligtas sa Tigdas campaign, the simultaneous mass immunization of Measles-Rubella (MR) Vaccine and Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) to eradicate the said diseases in the country.

The polio vaccinations will be given to infants and children aged 0-59 months while measles vaccines will be given to children aged 9-59 months.

The City Health Office targets to immunize an estimated 24,165 infants and children within the one month period.
A team from the CHO will monitor and conduct rapid coverage assessment to be implemented during the mass immunization.

Dr. Leonard Carbonell, city health officer, said the immunization drive will cover all the barangays in order to prevent measles outbreaks.

The Pangasinan Medical Society, Philippine Pediatrics Society-Northern Luzon Chapter, and the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints have already pledged their support for the activity.

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez said “we will make sure that each and every child will be immunized there is no better way to avoid these diseases than by getting vaccinated.” “Under the Alagang Balon Dagupan program, we will continue to bring health services closer to the barangays. And in this campaign,” the mayor said.
