DAGUPAN CITY – “Stop bullying, be a friend.”
This was the message of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez to teenage students of the Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS) who attended the launching of the Anti-Bullying campaign in their school last August 27.
Fernandez said parents, teachers and students should be proactive against bullying since it could affect the self-esteem of a child and in worst cases, trigger suicidal tendencies.

“Let’s put a stop to bullying starting today,” the mayor emphasized as she assured that her administration will exert all efforts to make all public and private schools in Dagupan bullying-free.
Gerry Pradez, the school’s PTA president, thanked Mayor Fernandez as the DCNHS’s anti-bullying campaign received much-needed support from the city government. She said this will also be replicated in all the 39 public schools and 29 private schools in Dagupan.
In the coming Dagupan Children’s Congress in October, the mayor has included the anti-bullying issue as one of the topics to be tackled in order to heighten the awareness of school children so that they will immediately report cases of bullying and other forms of violence to their teachers.
Fernandez said that after the Congress she will also ask the Sangguniang Panlungsod to pass an ordinance seeking to put to stop bullying in all the city’s public and private elementary and secondary schools as well as in colleges and universities.
During the event, Mayor Fernandez led the parents, homeroom officers, teachers and students in signing the pledge of commitment against bullying. (CIO)
