City’s Lying-in Clinic inaugurated
URDANETA CITY— To achieve zero infant and maternal mortality rate, the city government established its own five bed-capacity lying-in clinic last Wednesday.
According to City Health Officer Dr. Bernardo Macaraeg, the construction of the clinic was made possible by a P2 million fund from the Department of Interior and Local Government and the city government of Urdaneta allotted P2 million for the equipment.
He said the Department of Health (DOH) tasked the city to maintain zero infant and maternal mortality throughout in support of the country’s commitment to the UN Millennium Development Goals.
The city recorded two infant deaths last year and Macaraeg expressed confidence that the lying-in clinic will now ensure safe delivery of infants and the health of the mothers. (Hilda M. Austria/PNA)
