City PESO, OFW desk help residents

DAGUPAN CITY – Some 2,000 applicants for local and overseas employment have been processed by the city’s Public Employment and Services Offices (PESO) during special recruitment activities.
The OFW Desk had assisted 11 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) through repatriation or endorsement of their cases to the Overseas Workers Welfare Association (OWWA) for appropriate and immediate action.
PESO manager Joy Siapno, who also oversees the operation of the OFW Desk at the City Action Service Team (CAST), said that 1,114 job applicants have qualified for local employment and 897 others for jobs overseas.
A good number of job applicants were hired promptly by employers who sought the assistance of PESO.
Walk-in applicants were recorded at 660 from February to July this year.
Her office also listed 100 beneficiaries under the Special Project for Employment of Students (SPES) while another 40 benefited from the Government Internship Program (GIP).”
From January to August this year, the OFW Desk in the CAST provided relief to the families of OFWs in this very commendable scheme and service under the ‘Balon Dagupan’ in partnership with OWWA.
REPATRIATED
Father and son Alexander and Lexter Seco of Bonuan Boquig were repatriated though the intervention of Mayor Fernandez whose employer abused them by violating terms of their contract.
Marites Z. Arcega, an OFW from Barangay Pantal was repatriated after shed complained that she was forced to work until 1:00 in the morning, and was not given food regularly or was asked to pay for her food.
A family sought the assistance of the OFW Desk to locate a relative working in Singapore while another who was maltreated by her employer was provided another employment after the OFW Desk reported her case to OWWA.
Another OFW who became ill and went into to coma was repatriated. (CIO/Joseph C. Bacani)
