10 mayors pledge to support gubernatorial Cojuangco’s bid

COJUANGCO UPDATE

FROM THE 6TH DISTRICT

ROSALES—The support of local leaders for former Pangasinan fifth district Congressman Mark Cojuangco’s bid for the gubernatorial post has began to snowball.

Last week, two congressmen and 10 mayors in the sixth district, with their vice mayors and Liga ng mga Barangay presidents committed to help him in his 2016 gubernatorial bid.

The manifestation of support was made before local newsmen at the residence of Abono party-list Rep. Conrado Estrella III, who, together with sixth district Rep. Marlyn Primicias-Agabas, led their mayors, vice mayors and Liga presidents in endorsing Cojuangco.

Estrella, former congressman of sixth district, said their decision to support Cojuangco was a product of consultations. He said no one dictated on the mayors, vice mayors and Liga presidents, whom he described as “independent-minded”.

MCO-Update

Pangasinan sixth district leaders led by Congresswoman Marlyn Primcias-Agabas and Abono partylist Rep. Conrado Estrella III, with their mayors, vice mayors and Liga ng mga Barangay presidents flash the C-sign as a manifestation of their all-out support for the gubernatorial bid in 2016 of former Pangasinan fifth district Congressman Mark Cojuangco. They also pledged to support Cojuangco’s vice gubernatorial tandem, Calasiao Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalay.

“But we are one in deciding that Congressman Mark Cojuangco rightfully deserves our support for governor,” Estrella said. He said they believe that with Cojuangco as governor, he could bring in more investors which the province badly needs to boost its economy and provide more employment to its people.

Primicias echoed Estrella’s statements, saying they, too, went through the process of consultation.  She said they made their open declaration for Cojuangco since they believe in his leadership.

She said she sees in him his determination, fairness “and he would fight for you until the very end and I’ve proven his sincerity”.

Of the 10 mayors in the sixth district, seven are from the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), the party founded by business tycoon Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco, father of Mark. Three of the mayors are not NPC members “but they are all here to show we are united”, Agabas said.

Present during the meeting/declaration of support were Mayors Heidee Chua (Asingan), Tyrone Agabas (Tayug), Susan Pagador-Casareno (Rosales), Rodrigo Rafael (Natividad)  a Nacionalista Party member; Philipp Peralta (Balungao) a Partido ng Masang Pilipino member; Teodoro Ramos (Sta. Maria), Jericho Perez (San Manuel), Clark Tiu (San Quintin) a Liberty Party member; Rebecca Saldivar (San Nicolas) and Elfred Tumbocon (Umingan). Most of them were joined by their vice mayors and Liga presidents.

The mayors declared their support for Cojuangco individually during the meeting in their one-and-one talks.

In the same forum, Cojuangco announced that his running mate would be Calasiao Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalay whom the sixth district leaders are also supporting.

Cojuangco thanked the sixth district leaders, saying, “This endorsement is such a huge thing for me. I am humbled by your endorsement. I am a little bit intimidated by the expectations but I want to assure all that I will do my best to meet your expectations of me.”

He told them that he is known never to leave his colleagues and assured the mayors of his support in their respective bids for reelection mayors in 2016.

On July 25, nine mayors of first district also publicly declared their all-out support for Cojuangco’s gubernatorial bid in a meeting held at the NPC headquarters in Quezon City.
