Two behind car rental charged, still at large
BALOLONG MURDER CASE
LINGAYEN –Two more suspects were charged in the killing of Urbiztondo town mayor Ernesto Balolong Jr. and the death of two others last June 7.
Cases have been filed against a certain Ramil Santos and Eduardo Nicolas, both natives of Malabon City, OIC-provincial police director PSSupt. Sterling Raymund Blanco said in an interview.
The two were responsible for renting the dark gray Toyota Innova used as getaway vehicle, he pointed out.
Santos presented a passport and a postal identity card while Nicolas presented a proof of billing from the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), as documentary requirements that allowed them to rent the car used in the slaying.
However, the Department of Foreign Affairs verified that no passport was issued to Santos and that the passport he presented (EB0807508) was issued to Jesah Abelido Gelantaga-an on 20 August 2010 in DFA Manila.
The two suspects are still at large.
Blanco also said his office will coordinate with the Bureau of Immigration for the issuance of hold departure order to the two suspects.
Balolong, who was serving his second term for 2013-2016 as the local chief executive; Police Officer 1 Eliseo Ulanday, Balolong’s bodyguard; and a certain Edmund Meneses were shot dead along Rizal St., Brgy. Poblacion, Urbiztondo.
Previous manhunt operations led to the arrest of two suspects namely Eduardo De Guzman and Marito Sarmiento, both natives of Bugallon town, on the night of June 7.
De Guzman and Sarmiento are presently detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s (BJMP) facility in San Carlos City.
Blanco said a request for the transfer of the two to a “more secure facility” has been made.
Meanwhile, police augmentation is still present in Urbiztondo town and a unit of the Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) is still assigned to secure the family of the late mayor, following the order of PNP Chief, Gen. Alan Purisima. (Tita Roces and Johanne R. Macob)
