Street food vendors get gov’t assistance

By July 28, 2014News, News Briefs

STREET food vendors in Dagupan City now have access to government support via the “Negosyo sa Kariton” (Nego-kart), a livelihood assistance project of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) recently launched by the city government.

Qualified participants are required to undergo training on food management practices and standard sanitary procedures organized by the city government.

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez has designated the City Agriculture Office (CAO) as the lead department in implementing the project.

The city government will distribute initially 30 nego-karts provided by the DOLE to the qualified ambulant vendors.

Fernandez hailed the project as one that improves the lives of low-income vendors and at the same time encourage them to adopt sanitary practices to protect the health of the public.

Under the program, DOLE will provide vending carts including accessory livelihood tools costing P12,000, along with working capital amounting to P2,500 and training assistance worth P500  or a total of P15,000  to each vendor-beneficiary. (CIO Joseph C. Bacani)
