Tapuac kapitan’s assailant still at-large

DESPITE the immediate release of a computerized artist illustration of the suspect in the shooting of a barangay chairman in Dagupan City last June 13, the suspected gunman  and another person of interest in the case remain at-large.

The illustration — describing a thin man with dark complexion, 5’6” to 5’7” tall, weighing 63 to 68 kilograms weight, and with an estimated age of 30 to 35 years old — is based on witness accounts and footages from closed circuit television cameras (CCTV).

The victim, Kapitan Jake Reyes Jr. of Barangay Tapuac, who was shot by the lone gunman at the barangay hall at 2:45 in the afternoon of June 13, is still recovering from his wound after he was able to flee when the suspect’s gun jammed.

Meanwhile, P/Supt. Christopher Abrahano, chief of Dagupan police, said they are looking into another “person of interest” who could have a possible motive to have Reyes killed.

He was identified as Roel “Kamote” Santos Bugayong, who is wanted for multiple robberies in the barangay.

“Kaptain Reyes was said to be addressing the complaints against Kamote who is known to be a neighborhood bully,” Abrahano said.

Abrahano assured the public that the peace and order situation in the city is “still under control”.

“We are doing our best. It is unfortunate that we were not able to prevent these crimes but we are focusing on solving them just like what we did in the previous cases,” the police chief said.–Hilda M.Austria
