LINGAYEN—The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) passed last Monday a resolution requesting President Benigno Aquino III to decide on the appeal of Urbiztondo Mayor Ernesto Balolong over the administrative case filed against him.

The SP again issued a 60-day preventive suspension against Balolong based on the administrative case filed by former municipal treasurer Loida Cancino.

“The early resolution of the appeal will go a long way to lessen the tension and anxiety in Urbiztondo,” reads the resolution authored by Sixth District Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr., chairman of the provincial board’s Committee on Good Governance and Accountability of Public Officials that handles administrative cases filed against public officials.

Last May 12, the President, through Deputy Executive Secretary for Legal Affairs Michael Aguinaldo, issued an order staying the preventive suspension pending resolution of the appeal.

The order directed the appellees to submit their comments and for the SP to forward the complete records of the case to the Office of the President.

The preventive suspension order was signed on April 7 by Gov. Amado Espino Jr. and posted at the mayor’s office on April 15.

Consequently, Balolong filed an appeal before the Office of the President on April 21.

Meanwhile, Bince said hearings on Balolong’s case on another complaint filed against him.

“We will review the evidence and if the evidence warrants another preventive suspension for all or each of the new cases, we will do that. We will perform our mandate as provided under the local government code,” said Bince.—Tita Roces and Johanne R. Macob
