NPC expels new Urbiztondo mayor, mother

URBIZTONDO—New political lines continue to be drawn after former 5th District Rep. Mark Cojuangco declared his intent to run for the gubernatorial post in 2016.

Urbiztondo’s new mayor Mayor Martin Raul Sison, 25, and his mother, Marilyn Sison, who was a defeated mayoralty candidate in last year’s elections, were expelled as members of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).

The expulsion was confirmed by the NPC executive committee, headed by Faustino Dy Jr. and Gigi Aggabao, chairman and president respectively of the NPC.

Former Pangasinan fifth district Rep. Mark Cojuangco, NPC provincial chairman in the province, earlier sent a letter advising them of the chapter’s action.

It will be recalled that Second District Board Member Raul Sison, father of now Mayor Martin Raul, had resigned from the NPC, together with four other members of the provincial board effective June 1, 2014.

In his letter, Cojuangco wrote, “It is my humble opinion that the new mayor and his mother Marilyn (who ran for mayor under NPC and lost), can only reflect the sentiments of his father/husband Raul Sison, which are demonstrably contemptuous of the party and of my person. Meaning that in Urbiztondo, we really do not have a party member who has the NPC’s interests at heart.”

“And, I would rather not have anybody representing the NPC in any place, than having one who would represent the Party in negative light,” Cojuangco added.

Finally, he wrote, “May I therefore request that we formalize the real state of political affairs in Urbiztondo by expelling Mayor Martin Sison and his mother Mrs Marilyn Sison from the NPC, and having their names removed from the roster of Party members effective as soon as they can be notified formally.”

In a subsequent separate letters to the mayor and his mother, Cojuangco wrote, “It seems that sentiments, very publicly expressed by your husband BM Raul P. Sison towards the NPC and myself as Provincial Chairman would cause you to be in an impossibly awkward situation as regards the Party”.

The PUNCH tried to get the mayor’s reaction but to no avail.

Meanwhile, Cojuangco explained that the resignations from the NPC of five Pangasinan board members, namely Raul Sison, Nestor Reyes, Angel Baniqued Jr., Alfonso Bince Jr. and Danilo Uy,”are malicious, contemptuous, frivolous and premeditated to achieve negative political messaging and effect upon the undersigned’s announced candidacy for the Pangasinan Governorship in 2016”.

“I dismiss the resignations as inconsequential to both the party and my candidacy. I welcome the added clarity which it brings towards knowing who our true allies in the Province are,” Cojuangco added. – Tita Roces
