MAYOR Belen T. Fernandez was among 50 local government executives who graduated last May 28 from an online orientation course for Newly-Elected Officials (NEO) offered by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Local Government Academy (LGA).

Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas awarded the certificates to the graduates who came from various parts of the country to the graduation ceremony held at the Heritage Hotel in Pasay City.

“I congratulate all of you for taking the course and for desiring to improve yourself to gain skills and competence so that you can help your people better,” Roxas said.

The online course, which is the first component of the DILG’s NEO Program, is a pioneering venture of the Department through the LGA’s campaign to empower local government units and their officials through online training modules.

The graduates, composed mostly of neophyte provincial governors, city mayors and municipal mayors from all over the country, have fulfilled the requirements of the program by completing the two basic modules and three elective modules/online executive sessions which started in July 2013 when they first assumed office.

These include the P’NOY Social Contract on the Ground, Decentralization and Governance and Creating Local Economic Development Champions.

The graduates also crafted reports on their 1st 100 Days in Office, Social Contract and their own Re-Entry Action Plan.

Fernandez said she made an effort to complete the course despite her hectic schedule as she wanted to learn more about good local governance and effective leadership.

The other Pangasinan officials who took the course were from the local government units of Alcala, San Nicolas, Sto. Tomas, Bani, Sual, Rosales, Bolinao, Alaminos City, Bautista, Bugallon, Infanta and Mangaldan, (CIO)
