DAGUPAN CITY—About 326 households in 19 barangays in Sual town, the home of the coal-fired power plant in Pangasinan, will be provided with solar home systems whose installation will be completed this year.

An agreement for this purpose will soon be signed by the Department of Energy (DOE), TeaM Energy Foundation, Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (Cenpelco) and the local government unit (LGU) of Sual.

Froilan Gregory Romualdez III, senior manager for external affairs of TeaM Energy told the KBP Forum that DOE will take the lead in this project by providing hardware like solar panels and lights while TeaM Energy, which runs the 1,200 megawatts Sual coal-fired power plant, will provide  community organizing and social preparations.

Engr. Rodrigo Corpuz, Cenpelco general manager, confirmed that the 326 households aresituated far from the existing electricity connections or the grid.

“So it was proposed that these (households) will have their electricity through solar system and through the joint efforts of the Sual LGU, CENPELCO and TeaM Energy Foundation,” Corpuz said.

A similar solar project was installed in San Nicolas town in Pangasinan, benefitting 16 households, Director Efren Balaoing, from the DOE Luzon Field Office based in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan, said. –Tita Roces
