Gunman in kapitan’s shooting arrested
DAGUPAN CITY—Authorities have arrested the suspected gunman responsible for shooting the barangay captain of Tapuac.
Twenty-three-year-old Aljon Marcelino Ruisan, a resident of the city’s Barangay 2 and 3, was apprehended after informants led authorities to his whereabouts following the release of a computerized artist illustration based from the description of witnesses.
Operatives led by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the police conducted a buy bust operation at dawn of June 22 that led to the suspect’s arrest.
Ruisan is reportedly known as drug pusher in the neighborhood.
Ruisan was later presented to the witnesses and was positively recognized to be the gunman who shot barangay captain Jake Reyes Jr. inside the barangay hall.
After he was shot above his chest, Reyes managed to run out of the barangay hall after the suspect’s gun jammed and sought help.
Meanwhile, P/Supt. Christopher Abrahano, chief of PNP Dagupan, said the case is still not considered solved because a person of interest in the case named Roel Bugayong, also known as Kamote and reportedly an associate of Ruisan, is still at large.
Kamote is wanted for alleged participation as the look-out, in the shooting of Reyes besides having a standing warrant of arrest for robbery.
Authorities have filed cases of attempted murder and violation of the drug law against Ruisan. –Hilda M. Austria
