SITUATIONER ON ILLEGAL DRUGS

LINGAYEN—Next on the agenda: illegal drugs.

Regional and provincial officials of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) will present an update on the campaign vs. illegal drugs in Pangasinan on June 23 before the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP).

The provincial board invited PDEA for a briefing during the Question Hour (HR) following reports of the continued proliferation of illegal drug trading and use in the province.

Sixth District Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr., who authored the resolution for the invitation, said the SP is currently assessing the overall peace and order in the province, which includes concerns on illegal drugs.

“It is the desire of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to be informed of the actions being undertaken by PDEA to solve the proliferation of illegal drugs in Pangasinan,” the resolution stated.

It specifically requested the presence of the PDEA regional director and the Pangasinan provincial team leader during the provincial board’s Question Hour to aid the SP in the enactment of legislative measures “to help control, if not totally eradicate, this social menace in the province.”

Two weeks ago, P/Sr. Supt. Sterling Raymund Blanco, Pangasinan police director, reported to the board members that the Police Provincial Office (PPO) scored well in its campaign against illegal drugs .

He said 213 pushers and users were nabbed and 471.417 grams of shabu and 980.543 grams of dried marijuana leaves seized that Dangerous Drugs Board estimated to have a market value of  more than P3.1 million.

The arrests and seizures resulted in filing of some 205 cases against drug pushers in court.
