LINGAYEN–The installation of solar streetlights at the Lingayen Baywalk is now underway following the ground-breaking ceremony held June 9.

“This will help promote tourism for locals and visitors… and show that we are very serious with environmental protection and conservation,” remarked Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan during the event.

The baywalk solar streetlights project is being operated in partnership with the San Roque Power Foundation, Inc. (SRPF), Team Energy Foundation Inc. (TEF), and Trademaster Resources Corporation (TRC).

Tom Valdez, SRPF vice president, said, “This (project) is not only a support for reducing carbon footprint… the dream really is to make municipalities begin sourcing their power from renewable energy and be independent from the grid.”

Valdez added that apart from the Lingayen Baywalk project, SRPF and TEF have been supporting solar lighting project in San Nicolas, which benefited around 40 households.

Roderick De Castro, TEF executive director, affirmed such projects are in line with their environmental and electrification program.

The baywalk solar lights panel with a 10-15-year warranty cost P2.2-million.

In the same event, 2nd District Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil, who initiated the lighting project, also led the unveiling of the bench prototype that will be installed along the baywalk.

He said that each concrete bench costs P2,500 and sponsors’ names will be inscribed on the bench.

Bataoil added the baywalk will get additional fund from the general appropriations act (GAA) 2015 for its expansion.
