A prayer for Binalonan
NOT A SONG BUT…
BINALONAN—It is not uncommon for municipalities, cities and provinces to have their respective official hymns but this town adopted something different: an official prayer.
A municipal ordinance was recently passed setting the recitation of the “Prayer For Binalonan” before any preliminary event for official public events.
Councilor Alberto Espiritu Jr, author of the ordinance, said it was enacted to instill the inclusive culture of prayerfulness in the municipality.
The prayer, written in English, may be recited or rendered using various media and technology allowed after consultation with the church group convened for the purpose and approval of the Sangguniang Bayan.
Sixth district Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr. said it was quite unique for him to encounter such an ordinance forwarded to the provincial board for final approval.
“Binalonan perhaps wants to instill the deeper value of spirituality to its people by adopting its official municipal prayer,” Bince said.—Tita Roces
