BOLINAO–Thirty-two fishermen whose boats encountered mechanical failure while sailing through rough waters have been brought to shore and given medical treatment at a local hospital here on June 24.

The fishermen were sighted by Bolinao resident Daniel Del Tierro, 37, boat operator of F/B Joshua and a resident of Sitio Arosan, Barangay  Concordia. He alerted the Bolinao Police station about the presence of the stranded fishermen from Batangas.

Del Fierro said he found the fishermen on board their immobilized fishing boat within 51 nautical miles of the territorial seawater of Bolinao.

The rescued fishermen on board F/B Rafael that left Barangay Wawa, Nasugbo, Batangas on June 15, were visibly exhausted, hungry and thirsty when brought on board the F/B Joshua.

The 32 fishermen were taken to a fish wharf in Barangay Concordia where they were fed before they were brought to the Sampaloc Community Hospital in Bolinao for treatment.

The relatives of the fishermen in Batangas were contacted by the Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Office. —LVM
