FOLLOWING up on the discussions during the Bangus Summit held as part of this year’s Bangus Festival, the government of Dagupan has created a bangus development team to identify concrete measures to increase the sales of the city’s most popular product.

Mayor Belen Fernandez, speaking during the flag raising ceremony last Monday, admitted that despite the success of the 12-year old Bangus Festival, the sales of milkfish products and the backyard deboning industry over the past years have not registered a significant growth.

“Our focus is how to increase the income of stakeholders in the milkfish industry,” Fernandez said.

The mayor has ordered the city budget office to allocate funds for the improvement of facilities inside the public markets.

She specifically identified the revenues from fees for use of public toilets owned by the city which averages P630, 000 a month since January this year, as a source for the market’s funding. (Dada Austria)
