STA. MARIA—A municipal councilor here has been slapped with an administrative case before the provincial board of Pangasinan for dereliction of duty and dishonesty having attended only three sessions of the weekly local council meeting since he assumed his post.

The case was filed against Councilor Jun-jun Macaraeg of Barangay San Pablo by seven of his fellow municipal councilors, namely Noel Agpawa, Rodolfo Balmores, Arnel Ginez, Justino Dominador Rodriguez Jr, Susana Segui, Gilberto Cantoria and Julius Ramos along with Vice Mayor Conrado Ignacio, the Sangguniang Bayan’s (SB) presiding officer.

The complainants are also seeking the suspension or dismissal of Macaraeg from his post.

The complaint alleges that despite Macaraeg’s continuous absence, he has been withdrawing and receiving his salary and other benefits due to a councilor.

“In other words, he committed dishonesty amounting to estafa, to the constituents that elected him,” the complaint said.

Attached to the complaint was a certification of Macaraeg’s three attended sessions from the SB secretary and another certification from the municipal accountant of the amounts he received as salary and benefits. (Tita Roces)
