Photographer awed by Pangasinan’s beauty

LINGAYEN— ”Picturistic”

That was how Robert John Cabagnot of the Samahang Litratista ng Rizal (SLR), the winner of the recent Pista’y Dayat photo contest, described Pangasinan.

He said he coined the word ‘picturistic’ to connote picture-perfect and picture-fantastic in describing Pangasinan.

Madaming magagandang kunan at mababait ang mga tao,” said Cabagnot, the grand winner of the first Pangasinan Photo Contest.

Last week, Governor Amado Espino Jr. presented to him and other winners their prizes.

Speaking after the awarding ceremony, Cabagnot from Antipolo, Rizal narrated how his group- composed of 16 photography hobbyists chose Pangasinan as a subject of their photo shoot last year.

“Last year, we scouted for a location for our on-the-spot shoot, and we decided on Pangasinan because of the places we saw on internet,” he recalled.

He said five of the SLR photography club members decided to submit their entries upon sharing of the Pista’y Dayat contest. Four entries won top prizes, he added.

Cabagnot, a project manager of an offshore software development company and a photography enthusiast since 2009, won the best photo category. His entry depicting three locals harvesting crabs in Patar, Bolinao at dawn, with the aid of a ‘lampara,’ won.

Other winners were: 1) Natural Wonders: 1st place- Eric Gilos Merced, 2nd – Corlito Ignacio Jr., 3rd- Kathlea Sebastian; 2) Man-made Attractions: 1st– Dan Reyes, 2nd- Francesca Avila, 3rd-Don Rosete IV; and 3) People and Events: 1st – Jamie Singlador, 2nd- Francesca Avila, 3rd- Jeoffrey Reyes.

The winners received plaques and cash incentives (best photo- P30,000 best photo; first place- P15,000; second- P10,000; and third- P5,000).

Provincial information officer Orpheus Velasco said that the objective of the contest was to showcase the grandeur of natural wonders, man-made attractions, and people and events in the province in interpreting “Pangasinan as the best place to live, work, and raise a family” through photographs.
