MANGALDAN—The Mangaldan police station welcomes not only complaints but also book donations.

As part of its community relations program, the local police launched the “Lumang libro mo para sa Magandang Kinabukasan ko” project that aims to build a library for the Inlambo Elementary School.

Supt. Jackie Candelario, town police chief, said since the launching last April 28, individuals and private schools have been bringing books in books for donation.

Candelario said Barangay Inlambo is one of the poorest communities in the town and could not afford to set up its library for the school.

“We will rebuild a dilapidated classroom into a library so the children will have a place to study,” Candelario said.

The local police, he said, will also provide funds for the project.

Donations and pledges are being raised through social media and donation boxes placed in the town church, municipal hall and at Mangaldan Rural Bank.

Story books, picture books, activity/coloring books, educational materials, dictionaries, general information books are preferred for the planned library.

“We appeal not only for books and cash donations but also for volunteers who could help us in the construction of the library,” Candelario added.

Construction will start on May 19.

Aside from the library project, the police personnel of Mangaldan will also hold reading and storytelling sessions every Sunday.

“We want to revive the habit of reading to our young people which is slowly fading because of technology,” Candelario said.—Dada Austria
