Fewer complaints vs. cops in Q1
THE number of complaints against police personnel in Pangasinan during the first quarter of 2014 declined compared to last years’ data for the same period, according to the National Police Commission (Napolcom).
Lawyer Monday Samson, Napolcom provincial director, said the decrease can be attributed to the regular re-orientation of police officers on the limits of their authority, their awareness on the laws and consequence of improper actions, and the trust of the public to the men and women of the police.
Currently, there are 10 cases pending for review, of which seven involve emotional aspects under the code of violence against women and children.
“The cases on torture, physical abuse, illegal arrest and extortion have noticeably decreased,” Samson added.
“Pasado ang Pangasinan police provincial office sa kanilang defense sa patrol plan at bumaba ang mga kaso laban sa kapulisan ng Pangasinan,” Samson said during a KBP Forum.
Each police station and individual cops were rated based on their operations performance, ‘scorecards’, and the Community Assistance Referral Team (CART), among others.
“If there is a complaint against the station or an individual policeman, points are deducted,” he explained. (PIA1-Pangasinan/VHS)
