DTI pushes for export of Pangasinan goods
BETTER products, more exports.
This is the battlecry of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the province, noting that Pangasinan has a lot of raw materials that can be developed and marketed to the international market.
“Kailangan ma-develop ang exports at ‘yan nga ang tinututukan ng DTI, kase marami tayong raw materials,” said DTI provincial director Peter Mangabat during the KBP forum last May 8.
Mangabat said while there are varied products in the province but only bangus (milkfish), mango, and a few handicrafts have penetrated the international market.
At present, there are only three to four companies exporting bangus and only one for mango.
He said producers need to improve their quality control and packaging.
Among the products that DTI is currently promoting for export is the engineered bamboo that is being produced in the town of Bayambang.–Johanne R. Macob
