Cops corner suspected gunrunner

DAGUPAN City Police Station (DCPS) operatives arrested on Friday (May 16, 2014) a suspected gunrunner and two allegedly loose firearms.

According to Police Superintendent Christopher Abrahano, chief of police, the suspect was identified as Eric Tajeda, 28 years old, married, a pedicab driver, and a resident of Eastern Blue Beach, Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City.

The suspect was arrested by DCPS operatives near his residence in Barangay Gueset at around11:50 a.m. after selling two undocumented .38 caliber revolvers to an undercover police officer. Tajeda was not able to show any papers for the said firearms.

Abrahano said the station’s intelligence section was alerted of the suspect’s gun running activities by concerned citizens.

“The revolvers will be submitted to PNP Crime Lab and will be subjected to firearms forensic examination. We want to find out if these weapons were used in other crimes.” Abrahano said.

The suspect is under the custody of the DCPS while he faces charges for violating RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunitions Regulation Act.- Johanne R. Macob
