Bautista boxers dominate Paboksing ed Gulpo

LINGAYEN–Five young boxers from Bautista town dominated the action-packed 5th Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. Cup “Paboksing ed Gulpo”, one of the highlights of the Pista’y Dayat 2014 at the Capitol beachfront here.

The five amateur boxers who proved to be kings of the ring were Wilbert Bautista (light flyweight-48 kgs.), John Edward Ogbo (flyweight-49 kgs.), Julius Mata and Marc Anthony Tucay (both lightweight-56 kgs.), and Jayfre Mejia (light welterweight-60 kgs.).

All five boxers displayed power and stamina over their opponents, particularlyMejia who bested his opponent Mark Jayson Mendoza of Baguio City in a quick 25-second knock out during the first round.

Mata and Tucay also displayed their best forms over their opponents from Lingayen and Calasiao towns and finished their respective fights early in the first round via technical knock out (TKO).

Other winners who took home medals and cash prizes were: Jonathan C. Vidal of San Fabian (powderweight/36 kgs.), Reymund M. Sierra of Lingayen (paperweight/44 kgs.), Rodel Fernandez of Lingayen (pinweight/48 kgs.), Darwin Sanchez Ibanez of San Fabian (flyweight/50 kgs.), John Rein Gascon of Urdaneta City (bantamweight/52 kgs.), Ariel Evangelista of Lingayen and Reynaldo Manaois of San Fabian (both bantamweight/54 kgs.), Darius Ramos of Calasiao (welterweight /54 kgs.), and Gerson Astadan of San Fabian (middleweight/69 kgs.).

Modesto Operania, Executive Assistant III and sports coordinator, reiterated the provincial government’s full support to local athletes and intends to further promote boxing at the local level. (PIO)
