LINGAYEN–The bolt from the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) hatched by five of the nine provincial board members affiliated with the party failed to snowball.

Those who have signed the resignation letter so far are Board Members Alfonso Bince Jr. of the 5th District, Danilo Uy of the 5th District, Angel Baniqued Jr. of the 3rd District and Raul Sison and Nestor Reyes of the 2nd District.

Bince expected 5th District Board Member Clemente Arboleda Jr., the board’s majority floor leader, to join them upon arriving from a trip abroad but the latter begged off from signing.

“I respect the decision of my colleagues. For me, I have no reason for resigning,” said Arboleda, who learned about the resignation of his colleagues while in the United States through Facebook.

Arboleda opined that the grounds cited by his colleagues in their resignation are not valid reasons.

The five said they are resigning in view of the premature announcement of former Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco of his candidacy for governor in the 2016 election.

The five accused Cojuangco of breach of protocol when he started making the rounds in their districts without consulting the district board members.

Reacting to the resignation of the five, Cojuangco reportedly said the move of the five are expected as they are closely allied with Governor Amado Espino Jr., who is completing his third and final term in 2016.

Arboleda said that if he follows his colleagues, he has to give up his post as majority floor leader since they are no longer the majority in the provincial board.

Others who did not sign the resignation letter are Mojamito Libunao of the 4th District who is reportedly planning to reclaim his old post as mayor of San Fabian and 1st District Board Members Napoleon Fontelera Jr. and Antonio Sison.

There are three provincial board members who are with the Liberal Party, namely Ranjit Ramos Shahani of the 6th District, Generoso Tulagan Jr. of the 3rd District and Liberato Villegas of the 4th District. (LVM)
