Villar leads 9 ASNA awardees

LINGAYEN–Secretary Antonio Villar Jr., chairman of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), led the list of nine distinguished sons and daughters of Pangasinan who were conferred the prestigious ASNA Awards during awards night on April 5 at the Sison Auditorium, capping the celebration of Pangasinan Day.

Villar, chairman of the Dangeorus Drugs Board, who also headed the Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group (PASG) , was recognized for his distinguished public service.

Before holding national positions, Villar was also former mayor of his native town Sto. Tomas, during which he also held the position of president of the Pangasinan Mayors League and founder of Biskeg, a dominant political party in the province.

Also awarded was Atty. Gonzalo T. Duque, president of Lyceum Niorthwestern University in Dagupan City, also for public service in the promotion of history culture and arts. He chairs the Pangasinan Historical and Cultural Commission.  Initially, he headed an ad hoc body created by Gov. Amado Espino Jr. that researched on the approximate day, month and year Pangasinan was founded.

Sharing the limelight, was veteran film star Gloria Romero, a native of Mabini, whose movie career spans from the 50s to today, still regularly playing roles in movies and television soap operas.

Also awarded was businessman Cesar Quiambao of Bayambang who distinguished himself in business; Mrs. Marietta Primicias Goco of Alcala and Sta. Barbara who was chosen for her community development service. She served in the cabinet of former President Fidel V. Ramos.

Another famous awardee was Dr. Guillermo de Venecia of Dagupan and San Fabian who was honored for his career in medicine and humanitarian service, identified with a humanitarian foundation that continue to provide eye operations for free to indigents.

Other recipients were  Ronald C. Costales, of Villasis , vice president and chief operating officer of Costales Nature Farms, for organic agriculture development;  J. Prospero E. de Vera III of Villasis, currently a full professor and vice president at the University of the Philippine for public affairs, for education; and Pocholo B. Malillin of Malasiqui, executive producer and vice president at Club Mwah, for performing arts.
