VILLASIS—Two toddlers burned to death in a less than one-hour fire that razed their house to the ground in Poblacion Zone 2 here on April 22 at 8:00 p.m.

The children were identified as Anthony Canivas Jr., 2, and his one-year old brother Marc Laurence Canivas, who were left alone by their parents Anthony Canivas, 22, and his live-in partner Mary Grace Tabono, 20, to watch an event in the barangay fiesta.

Initial investigation conducted by the Villasis Police revealed that the fire started from the house of the victim before it spread to a neighbor’s house.

The fire was declared under control by responding firemen from the Villasis Fire Station at about 8:45 p.m.

Investigation showed that the couple, who had no electrical power supply in their house, left a lighted kerosene lamp beside the children when they left the house.

Canivas and Tabono rushed home upon learning of the fire but were too late to save the children.

The two children were burned beyond recognition while Canivas was brought to the Urdaneta City District Hospital for treatment of his burns in different parts of the body. —LVM and Tita Roces
