MANGALDAN–Mayor Bonafe De Vera-Parayno expressed dismay over the Sangguniang Bayan’s (SB) sluggish action on a resolution that will pave the way for the release of a P40-million loan from the Landbank of the Philippines for the 2nd phase of renovation of the burnt public market.

Parayno explained that the P40 million is part of the P100 million loan of the municipality pre-approved during the administration of the late Mayor Herminio Romero.

Landbank initially released P60 million that was used in the reconstruction of the market’s building one.

Following the sudden death of Romero and the ensuing change of administration, the bank has required the municipal government to submit a new set of documents, including a resolution from the SB.

Parayno said market vendors displaced by the fire have been complaining about loss in income with the delay in the second phase reconstruction.

“Besides the town has been losing income since that part of the market was not operational,” the mayor said.

OTHER PROJECTS

Parayno also reported that the income from building one has increased by 62% , to more than P800, 000 in February this year compared to P300, 000 in the same month last year.

“I can assure our people that we can pay the loan and even generate income as well as provide livelihood to some our town mates if the market’s building two will be rebuild,” Parayno said.

Mangaldan, known for its Pindang (dried Carabao beef), now has a meat processing center, slaughter house and livestock center, but still imports meat from the cities of Urdaneta and San Carlos.

On other projects, the former vacant third floor of the municipal hall is now undergoing renovation to serve as a multi- purpose hall and disaster evacuation center, with an elevator when funding becomes available.

“The elevator is for the benefit of the senior citizens, pregnant women and the differently abled citizens as mandated by law,” Parayno said.—Dada Austria
