THE heat wave that descended on the country over the past week claimed its first victim in Dagupan City in the middle of the street dancing competition of the Bangus Festival

Pedro Quinto, the 32-year old dancer and assistant choreographer initially fainted while performing in the finale of the competition.

Dr. Leonard Carbonel, city health officer, said the victim was determined to be hypertensive and was not taking medication.

He had already complained of a severe headache before the competition and was advised by his companions not to join the competition but he refused and insisted to follow through with his own choreography.

“The physical exhaustion from the heat and the late night practices finally took its toll on Quinto.” Carbonel said.

Quinto was rushed to the nearby Cuison Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Carbonelcautioned leaders of the streets dancing groups to carefully assess the health of each dancer before proceeding to participate in the Festival of the North on April 27. (Dada Martin)
