Foreign delegates join 1st International Green Camp

MORE than 100 campers composed of educators and secondary school students from Indonesia, India, Korea and the Philippines are taking part  in this year’s Bangus Festival 1st International Green Camp that kicked off April 24 and will end on the 27th at the National Integrated Fisheries Technology and Development Center (NIFTDC) compound  in Bonuan Binloc.

Maria Linda Ventenilla, project proponent, said the camp, with the theme “Clean and Green Environment is our Global Assignment”, is a convergence of educators and students who share the common goal of protecting and caring for the environment.

The participants include 27 from Jombang City, Indonesia; 14 from New Delhi, India; five from Korea and the rest from Davao City and  Dagupan City.

Ventenilla said various activities were lined up such as team building, survival vest making, survival skills enhancement, group painting, coastal clean-up, tree planting, and sharing of culture and best practices by students of  participating countries.

During the opening ceremony, Dagupan Mayor Belen T. Fernandez assured that another International Green Camp will be held in next year’s celebration of the Bangus Festival but with more countries participating.

“I hope all of you will come back again next year for another international green camp and we will make sure that we include this activity in our yearly  Bangus Festival,” the mayor said.

In that occasion, Vice Mayor of Jombang City MundijahWajab, Indonesian Embassy Minister Counsellor R. Toto Waspodo and Fernandez discussed the forging of sister-city agreement between the two cities which will focus on effective leadership, good governance and exchange of native products.
