AGUILAR–A 332-meter-long boulder bank that will protect barangay Bocboc West in this town from getting washed out by the Agno River has been completed with plans for extension to a 400-meter total span.

The 20-million project was undertaken by 2nd District Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil and the Agno Flood Control Office (AFCO).

Engr. Alex Reyes of AFCO said the boulder protection measures 2.8 meters in depth and 8 meters in slope distance.

Barangay Chairman Ronilo Pormintira said the project will benefit the more than 500 households in the community, along with their properties, crops, and livestock.

Another barangay official, Kagawad Hilda Frias, said the protection has assuaged fears of residents over the soil erosion on the embankment and constant flooding when it rains.

Nagpapasalamat kami…kase masyado nang kinakain ‘yong lupa namin, unti-unting nawawala,” she said.

Bataoil said they are still sourcing funds for the extension.–Johanne R. Macob
