Canadian group provides kids sleeping kits
A CANADA-based non-government organization distributed sleeping kits to some 100 children in Dagupan City last April 9.
The Sleeping Children Around the World (SCAW) organization composed mostly of Canadian volunteers, in coordination with the Kiwanis International Philippine Luzon District Club Philippines—Pangasinan and Dagupan Chapters, handed over sleeping kits and school supplies to children from barangays Lucao and Pantal.
“We always wanted to help out our children… and we saw there is a need (for such),” said Gail Hills, one of the SCAW Canadian volunteers who were in the Philippines for the first time.
The group has visited at least 32 countries over the last 25 years, she added.
The barangay chairmen representing the two villages expressed their gratitude to the organization.
Barangay Lucao Chairman Marcelino Fernandez said only children of indigent families were chosen as recipients of the sleeping kits.
After the distribution in Dagupan City, SCAW will proceed to Baguio City, among other parts of the country, to distribute to other children.–Johanne R. Macob
