Buntis Congress goes to 6th District
TAYUG—Some 300 pregnant women from towns in the 6th District availed of free medical and dental check-ups, lectures, and other pampering during the sixth installment of the Buntis Congress, held at the Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital (EPDH) on April 3, 2014.
The Provincial Health Office (PHO), with the help from the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecologist Society (POGS) in the region, provided the services to expectant mothers of Asingan, Balungao, Natividad, Rosales, San Manuel, San Nicolas, San Quintin, Santa Maria, Tayug, and Umingan.
The provincial government’ is encouraging all pregnant women to opt for a facility-based delivery to better ensure her own and her child’s health as the provincial government aims for a lower maternal mortality rate.
During the event, the PHO launched its new program called, “Anak Ko, Buhay Ko, Mahal Ko,” which promotes the millennium development goal (MDG) of bringing down the maternal mortality rate.
PHO chief Dr. Anna de Guzman said that while Pangasinan already registered a maternal mortality rate of 24/100,000 births last year, lower by 50% than the MDG target of 50/100,000 births by year 2015, the provincial government seeks to decrease the rate further.–Johanne R. Macob
