MAYOR Belen T. Fernandez  heartily welcomed more than 100 balikbayans of Dagupan and Pangasinan who joined the first Bangus Festival Pawil Pangasinan ed Balon Dagupan at Ciudad Elmina Farm in Bacayao Norte on April 25, according to event Coordinator Marge Navata.

The  occasion was in honor of balikbayans who have contributed to the progress of the province and the city.

“It is now our turn to give them due recognition by hosting this event for them so they will have some activity and enjoy their vacation and stay… that they may have something to remember when they return to their new adopted countries,” Navata said.

The balikbayans had a taste of Filipino dishes especially prepared for them by former city mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr., event chairman.

Earlier, the balikbayans were entertained by the University of Luzon Drum and Bugle Corps and the Gilon-gilon dancers of Dagupan City National High School in their street dance number depicting the manner of harvesting bangus in the fishpond.

The balikbayans were also allowed to catch fish at the fishpond, using rods, and their catch were later cooked as sinigang or inihaw.

They also enjoyed boating by the fishpond and witnessed the actual harvesting of bangus in the fishpond, the shelling of oysters, the actual deboning and classification of bangus.

They received total entertainment when Regine Velasquez serenaded them with her original pilipino music songs at the CSI Atrium at the CSI the City Mall in Lucao. (CIO/JosephCBacani)
