1 die, 54 hurt in truck accident
BANI—One died while 54 others, mostly children, were injured when the truck they were riding tipped on its side while traversing a descending road in Sitio Surip, Barangay Centro Toma here during the Holy Week.
The local police reported that an Isuzu drop side truck with plate number UJX 775 driven by Jesus Soriano Jr, 55, presently residing in Barangay Malindong, Binmaley, was on its way to Surip Beach noontime of April 16 when the vehicle encountered mechanical trouble.
As the truck plunged to side, all the passengers at the back of the open truck fell off except the driver and three other passengers seated at the front..
Responding policemen brought the passengers to the Bolinao Community Hospital and Western Pangasinan District Hospital in Alaminos City for treatment.
However, Remedios Raymundo, widow and resident of Malindong, Binmaley was declared dead on arrival at the Bolinao Community Hospital.
The truck driver was unhurt.
From the list of the injured, the youngest victim was a six-month old baby while the oldest was an 81-year old widow identified as Magdalena Tibalao.—Tita Roces
