WHEN buying galvanized iron for roofing, make sure it is properly marked with the brand name, the manufacturer’s name and address, thickness and width in millimeter, date manufactured, and the term for “for roofing use”.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Pangasinan office reminded consumers that makers of electroplated iron used for roofing are required to comply with quality standards and the right labelling.

DTI provincial director Peter Mangabat said pursuant to the Bureau of Philippine Standards Memorandum No. 14-1, series of 2014, the DTI is set to establish a consumer quality and safety standards that will require all galvanized companies to comply with the requirements.

Under the Consumer Act of the Philippines, requirements as to kind, class, grade, dimensions, weights and material used for the consumer products are required to be indicated by the companies, he added.

“Violation of this order shall have a maximum penalty of P300, 000 as provided in Article 164 of Republic Act 7394,” Mangabat pointed out.

Complaints for violations of the requirements can be brought before the DTI. (PIA1- Pangasinan/EBS)
