LINGAYEN– “We’re not even alarmed when a flesh-eating disease was reported spreading in Pangasinan. It is because we know that what was reported was isolated and unfounded.”

This pronouncement from June M. Villarante, Secretary to the Sanggunian of the City of San Carlos in Negros Occidental, indicates that people from other provinces in the country still consider Pangasinan as a favorite venue of study tours despite the unfounded healthscare that was reported on national TV.

“We don’t over-generalize. Sa daming tao dito… isa o dalawa lang naman ang affected. ‘Yung isa inflicted ng leprosy tapos yung isa naman may psoriasis… so walang katotohanan yung ibinalita talaga,” Villarante explained in an interview with the Provincial Information Office on March 4, Tuesday, during their study tour.

Villarante, together with 36 other secretaries to the Sanggunian and councilors of municipalities and cities in Negros Occidental, said they had already booked their flights before the report was aired.

“We are not affected and still we pursue the study tour,” she said.

Executive Assistant IV Ramon Morden and Atty. Verna Nava-Perez, Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Secretary, toured the Negrenses to the governor’s office, vice-governor’s office and office of the SP Secretary.

City of San Carlos Vice Mayor Edgardo Quisumbing, M.D. expressed gratitude to the provincial government for the warm accomodation accorded to their group as he cited “the classic beauty of the capitol builing complemented by orderliness and cleanliness and dedication to service by its workers.”

“We are planning to develop the heritage aspect of our town and our visit to this heritage building (the capitol) was a rare opportunity for us to learn how to develop heritage sites in our City,” the City Vice Mayor said.

Villarante, on the other hand, cited the Pangasinan Capitol building as the best that she had ever seen.

“It is being preserved and maintained very well. Its something different compared to other provincial capitol buildings because it is within a compound with three component buildings,” she said.

The team was also toured at the Urduja House and Sison Auditorium courtesy of the Provincial Tourism Operations Division. (PIO)
