TWO Pangasinan towns that produced five national Tour champions will conduct their respective cycling races on March 2 and 4 in connection with their town fiesta celebrations.

Mangaldan, which has been holding its annual races since 1974 and dubbed as “Werweran ed Mangaldan” in 1994 up to last year, will temporarily drop the name and will be called this year as “Mangaldan Men’s Cycling Challenge”. The race will start and finish at Barangay Buenlag, traversing some central and western municipalities of Pangasinan with an approximate distance of 125 kilometers. The bikefest is supported by the town’s Vice Mayor Manuel M. Casupang who will flag off the contestants together with Buenlag Chairman Silvestre T. Aquino.

Meanwhile, the “2014 Laoac Cycling Challenge” organized by Mayor Silverio Alarcio will flag off expected 70 participants in the race that will start and end at the host town. The bikefest will pass through the various eastern parts of Pangasinan with an estimate distance of 120 kilometers.

The two bikefests will each be raced in two categories, 38 to 54 and 55 and above years old, and jointly sponsored by Meridien Vista Gaming Corporation and Excellent Noodles of Alex Billan.

Cash prizes, trophies and medals are at stake in both events.–JAGJr.
