Gilon-gilon Street Dance to open Bangus Festival

GILON-GILON dancers from 22 contingents representing 31 barangays  of  the city will   take the center stage during the grand opening  of the Bangus Festival 2014 at 2:00 p.m. of April 22 to be covered  live by GMA-7  for telecast nationwide and on its international network.

The 22 contingents will come from the 31 barangays with the small ones clustered together. These are Lucao, Mangin, Tapuac, Bonuan Binloc, Malued, Bonuan Gueset, Bonuan Boquig, Tebeng, Pogo Chico, Caranglaan, Bolosan, Pantal, Pobalcion Oeste, Lasip Chico, and Tambac .

The other barangays which were clustered are Herrero-Perez and Mayombo; Calmay and Carael; Lomboy, Salapingao and Pugaro; Barangay 1, Barangay II and III, and Barangay IV; Pogo Grande and Lasip Grande; Bacayao Sur and Bacayao Norte; and Mamalingling and Salisay.

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, said the cash prizes at stake are: P120,000 for the champion; P80,000  for the first runner-up; P60,000 for the second runner-up; P40,000for the third runner-up; and P30,000 for the fourth runner-up while the best in costume and the best in musicality will receive P20,000 each respectively.

This year’s gilon-gilon will use for the first time  original dance steps used by the very first street dancers tapped during the celebration of Dagupan’s Golden Year in 1997 with then Councilor Belen Fernandez as chairman.

Fernandez is considered  as the one who introduced  the gilon-gilon dance steps  that depict the actual movements of fish farmers while harvesting bangus from their fishpond.
