Dagupan shifting to LED lights

By March 30, 2014Business, News

DAGUPAN City is now changing its incandescent bulbs in the street light posts into LED (light-emitting diode) lights that are more economical in order to reduce its electric consumption and save on its monthly power bill.

Mayor Belen Fernandez pointed out that aside from lower energy consumption, LED lights have many advantages over incandescent light sources, including longer lifetime, improved physical robustness, smaller in size and faster switching.

The decision was made after learning from WWF many other local government units have already switched, a policy to be among best practices.

WWF campaigns for the reduction of the impact of climate change through environment-friendly practices.

Fernandez said earlier initiatives to use LED lights in the city suspended after these were surreptitiously removed by market stall owners and brought home ostensibly for personal household use.

The mayor ordered City Engineer Virginia Rosario to retrieve the LED lights that were taken and to charge those who are unable to return the units.–LVM
