DAGUPAN’S first Public Alert and Response Management Center (PARMC) is now fully operational and ready to respond to emergency calls for public safety.

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, who led the blessing of the PARMC office located at the 3rd floor of the new building at the City Engineering Office on March 7, said she is confident that when a disaster strikes in the city, appropriate quick response can be launched.

“With the PARMC in place, warning of an impending disaster can be quickly issued,” she said. “The ability of our PARMC to consolidate the resources of the other participating units or agencies under one command center ensures that all resources can be harnessed to the maximum to meet even the worst hazards in a well coordinated manner,” the mayor added.

The office is under the supervision of SPO4 Carlito Ocampo and manned by Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment System (REDAS)-trained responders who underwent training on mainstreaming disaster risk reduction conducted by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

Prior to the opening of the PARMC, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management office and the City Planning and Development office already completed a profile of all the buildings in the city and identified those that can be used as shelters.

Fernandez added that the city will also be outfitted with directional signages to guide people towards the safer areas.

The city will also enroll 6,000 children in swimming lessons to prepare them in case they are swept away or find themselves in the middle of floodwater higher than them.

Fernandez said the cooperation of the local members of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters Pilipinas will also be vital in the operation of the PARMC. (CIO)
