Dagupan celebrates Women’s Month

DAGUPAN CITY will celebrate Women’s Month this March with the theme “Dagupeña, Ang Tatag Mo Ay Tatag Natin Sa Pagbangon at Pagsulong.”

The city has prepared several activities, including free health and lifestyle services for women,  daily taebo and zumba exercise with diet management, a grand parade on March 7, and the Search for Mrs. Buntis 2014 on the 10th.

“Ang Search for Mrs Buntis ay pangungunahan mismo ng Pangasinan Medical Society (PMS) at ng Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS) na nasa pamumuno ni Dra. Betha Fe Castillo. Ito ay kauna-unahan sa ating lungsod,” said City Social Welfare and Development Officer-In-Charge Leah L. Aquino.

More than 500 pregnant mothers in Dagupan will also receive PhilHealth cards on March 10 during the day-long “Buntis Congress”, coinciding with the celebration of Buntis Day at the CSI Stadia.

The recipients were identified in a survey conducted by the City Health Office

PMS and POGS will also conduct a cancer screening for breast and cervix for free from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Pangasinan Medical Society Building in Poblacion Oeste on March 25.

Indigent women will also be enrolled by the city in a one-month training on sewing, cosmetology, food processing, basic computer and arts and crafts from March 1-31 at the Livelihood and Skills Center in front of the Land Transportation Office in Babaliwan.

Gender and Development focal person Joy Siapno will lead the forum on the protection of women and gender equality at the museum on March 7 at 1:30 p.m.

In honor of women Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW), the city has designated a special desk at the City Action Service Team (CAST) office to handle concerns of women OFWs.

The City Population Office will conduct an information drive and education on teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, alcoholism and smoking and responsible parenthood in the 31 barangays. (CIO)
