CCP’s theater design seminar hailed
LINGAYEN—Students, tourism officers, cultural coordinators and stage designers and directors were among those invited to take part in the seminar-workshop on “Introduction to Set Design for the Theater” conducted by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in partnership with the provincial government of Pangasinan held March 19 at the Sison Auditorium here.
The seminar-workshop, a component activity of the ongoing exhibit of the works of national artist Salvador “Badong” Bernal, introduced the participants to theater art, including the elements and some basic techniques in stage design.
Mac Gonzales, exhibit curator and workshop instructor, said the seminar-workshop was a venue for stage design enthusiasts to better understand and appreciate how the Pangasinense Bernal defined theater art designing.
Gonzales stressed how Bernal embodied that “low-cost production of stage design resources should not limit the imagination”.
Among the participants were students from elementary, secondary and tertiary schools in Pangasinan and the nearby provinces of La Union and Tarlac, stage designers and pageant directors, art groups, some members of the provincial government’s Danggoan Pangasinan cultural group and employees from various offices and departments.
Dr. Romary Lincod, cultural coordinator of the Pangasinan State University-Lingayen, said the seminar-workshop provided them know-how on basic drafting of ground plan, rendering techniques of perspectives, light and shadow and basic model-making.
The exhibit of Bernal’s works is open until May 4. (PIO)
